Light up a Life is our most important annual fundraiser and offers your company the opportunity to support our patients and their loved ones and in turn be recognised for your generosity. It is an ideal opportunity not only to reach a large audience, but also to do so in the knowledge that you are making a tangible difference to the lives of so many patients here at Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services.

Gardens picIn 2018, Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services supported over 4,200 patients, residents and their families – a 20% increase since 2010. We also provided over 11,800 specialist palliative homecare visits – a 54% increase since 2010. To meet this growing demand, we now undertaking the most ambitious project in our 140 year history: the complete redevelopment of 36 new single palliative care en suite bedrooms in Harold’s Cross, the complete refurbishment of our 12 single palliative care en suite bedrooms in Blackrock and the evolution and expansion of our community based care services provided at both sites to meet growing demand and anticipated future needs.

The first phase of this project is complete and in 2018, we officially opened our new state-of-the-art 36 single bed palliative care in-patient unit in Harold’s Cross. Each spacious room opens onto its own private courtyard and communal garden area and all rooms have overnight facilities for families and are equipped to the highest in assistive technology standards. This new unit has transformed how we deliver care and ensures peace, privacy and dignity at end of life. 100% of the building costs or €13.6 million was funded by donations from companies, individuals and organisations such as yours.


Gentleman with nurseWe now move to the second phase of this important development, the complete refurbishment of our 12 palliative care bedrooms in Blackrock to emulate the quality and standard we now have in Harold’s Cross. This important project will be fully funded through fundraising. We also continue to fundraise for further expansion and development across all our services so that we can deliver optimal care in the right environment for all of our patients.
